To mark the 70th anniversaries of the independence of Pakistan and India on 14th and 15th August respectively, the British Film Institute and the British Council have made available a series of films from the treasures in the BFI National Archive.

BFI screenings on BFIPlayer are available here and include details from colour films made by Jack Cardiff in the 1930s and ethnographic films produced for Pathe Freres in the early years of the 20th Century.

The British Council and the BFI have also uploaded a series of 100 films on YouTube under the heading India on Film: 1899-1947
